Under Wisconsin’s Uniform Dwelling Code (SPS 321.03), a window used for exiting needs a net clear opening of at least 20 inches by 24 inches, has to open from the inside without tools, and cannot sit more than 60 inches above the floor. If any part of the opening is below grade, the well has to be at least as wide as the window and project a minimum of 36 inches from the foundation, with a ladder or stair once the well runs more than 46 inches deep. Local inspectors can add requirements on top of that, so we measure your foundation, your grade and your room before we quote anything.
